ONE SIP AT A TIME

Facts that you always wanted
to know about water

My Water Collection: A Journey Through the World of Water 💧

As a certified Water Sommelier, I see water as more than just a thirst-quencher. I also consider it a luxury product, a cultural asset and a fascinating reflection of our planet. Every bottle in my collection offers a glimpse into a different region, showcasing its unique geological origins and flavour. I believe that every water has its own unique 'DNA' in the form of its mineral composition.

Over the past seven years, my collection has grown to over 250 different waters. As it is such an extraordinary collection, today I would like to give you an insight into its diversity.

Here are ten of the many highlights from my collection:

Balbin Ester Water

Balbin is a Czech mineral water. It originates from a deep artesian spring in the Moravian Highlands. The limited-edition Ester Collection is the world's first mineral water enriched with esters from grape fermentation. No extracts. There are no artificial flavours. It contains only carbon dioxide from wine production. The gentle addition of this gas creates a champagne-like fizz with a subtle wine aroma. I had the opportunity to showcase the water at two events: the Baden-Baden Wine & Gourmet Festival and a Lamborghini customer event. It is a real eye-catcher and was very well received. Unfortunately, the water is only available in high-end restaurants, which is why it is in short supply.

Vytautas Water

Vytautas is a traditional mineral water from Birstonas in Lithuania which has been bottled for over 100 years. With a total mineralisation of 7,309 mg per litre, it is a genuine 'natural energy drink'. It is strong and salty, and contains traces of calcium and magnesium. This makes it ideal for athletes, sauna-goers and party people (an elotrans replacement). You may also be interested in: Elotrans out of stock? I'll tell you an alternative to do it yourself!

Red Bull LunAqua Water

Red Bull LunAqua Water

To be honest, I'm not sure if Red Bull is still producing this spring water. In any case, I have a bottle in my collection. Red Bull claims that the water was bottled during a full moon, giving it the energy of the night and the light of the moon.😉

Gaisberg Water

Gaisbergwasser is sourced from the Gaisberg mountain slopes near Salzburg. I mention this water because I have one of the highly collectable special editions, of which only 1,000 bottles were produced. Mine has the number 95 on it.

Vratislavicka Kyselka

This water comes from the Liberec region in northern Bohemia, Czechia. It is special to me because it comes from the well of my friend, Jan Vorkurka, who I had the privilege of visiting in 2023. He has revived a spring on an old, abandoned estate and now uses state-of-the-art technology to bottle this wonderful mineral water. To me, this water symbolises the importance of believing in your dreams and working hard to achieve them. Canada Geese Water

The Canadian Geese represent Canada's unspoilt nature, with its vast forests, peaceful lakes and majestic wild geese. I associate this water with my visit to Nova Scotia's wine region, where it is served alongside special wines at local wineries.

Tesla Voda Water

This water has a real kick to it. I had the opportunity to try it at the Water Sommelier Union meeting in 2019. Its unique selling point is that you get an electric shock when you open the bottle and take your first sip. I don't know how this was achieved, but it's certainly an interesting marketing strategy.

Fulvica Premium Water

This black water from Poland stands out due to its colour and health-promoting properties. It contains over 77 minerals and humic acids. It is said to aid detoxification, reduce fatigue and improve skin elasticity.

Vellamo Water

Vellamo

Hailing from Finland, Vellamo is sourced from a spring that has been protected by rock and glaciers for over 10,000 years. Presented in a beautiful turquoise glass bottle, it is sure to be the centre of attention on any dining table. I often give it as a gift for special occasions.

Three Bays Water

Three Bays is located near Red Hill in Victoria, Australia. The water originates from a spring 900 metres deep. It takes the water a full 2,000 years to travel from the Earth's surface to the spring. During this time, it absorbs many minerals. The mineral water has a total mineralisation of 1,300 mg per litre. This mineral-rich water contains 23 of the 24 minerals that are considered essential for health, including zinc, selenium and iodine.

Which water would you like to try, or is there a water missing from my list?

About Timo Bausch

My fascination with mineral waters began in 2016 during my training as a Water Sommelier. Since then, I have been exploring the characteristics and diversity of water. In addition to pairing water with food, wine, coffee and other beverages, I offer the creation of water menus for restaurants and hotels. Furthermore, it is also important to me to draw attention to the importance of drinking water.
