Dubai is a city that sets high standards when it comes to lifestyle, wellness, and quality of life. However, an essential product is often overlooked. Water. Not all waters are the same. Its taste and properties are influenced by factors such as its origin and mineral composition. As a Water Sommelier, I have compiled a list of ten popular mineral water brands available in Dubai.
ATTENTION: There are some real insider tips 😉

Lofoten Arctic Water is crystal-clear mountain water from Norway. It is bottled directly from the pristine Lofoten mountains, located north of the Arctic Circle. It is characterized by an exceptionally low total mineralization of only 30 mg per liter.
Taste: It has a pure and soft taste that brings out the subtle flavors of food and beverages. The carbonation gives the water an enjoyable, slightly acidic taste.
Recommendation: Lofoten Spritzig goes well with fish, oysters, scallops, lobster, and shrimp tartare.

Borjomi is a naturally carbonated mineral water with a very high mineral content. It is particularly rich in sodium and bicarbonate, with a total mineralization of 5,000 to 7,000 mg per liter.
Taste: It has a strong, slightly salty flavor with a distinctive, almost "medicinal" note. The natural carbonation is present and underscores the intense character.
Recommendation: It pairs perfectly with fatty and hearty dishes, such as grilled meat, barbecue, and burgers.

Lauretana is one of the most popular mineral waters in Germany. Its artesian source is located at an altitude of 1,050 meters on the Monte Rosa massif in Italy. With a total mineralization of only 14 mg per liter, it is considered "the lightest water in Europe."
Taste: It tastes extremely light and has a very clean finish. The carbonation gives Lauretana Sparkling a slightly lemony note.
Recommendation: Thanks to its lemony acidity, the sparkling version pairs well with salads, avocado, and cucumber. It also tastes great with sorbet.

Souroti is a natural mineral water from Greece with a total mineralization of 1,100 mg per liter. It contains its own natural carbonation and is particularly rich in bicarbonate (847 mg per liter), calcium (202 mg per liter), and magnesium (61 mg per liter). These properties give it a functional and complex structure.
Taste: Souroti tastes fresh and slightly sour due to the carbonation, with a fine mineral depth. Calcium and magnesium can be clearly tasted in the aftertaste.
Recommendation: Pairs well with Mediterranean cuisine, like olive oil, grilled vegetables, and fish.

EIRA comes from the majestic Eresfjord in Norway. There, it is filtered through a nine-meter-thick layer of gneiss and granite moraines. The still version has an extremely low total mineralization of only 6 mg per liter. EIRA has an extremely mild taste. It reminds one of melted snow or glacier water.
Taste: It tastes light and clean, without a trace of an aftertaste.
Recommendation: White fish, caviar, or light salads.

Solán de Cabras is a natural mineral water from the mountains of the Serranía de Cuenca in Spain. Over the course of 3,600 years, it passes through layers of rock, which filter it and allow it to absorb minerals. The total mineralization is 260 mg per liter.
Taste: The water tastes very soft, balanced, and elegant. Due to its mineralization, it has a light, subtle sweetness.
Recommendation: It is ideal for light dishes such as salad, vegetables, and poultry. The still version can also be served with coffee or tea.

Zaku is a natural mineral water from Latvia that is sourced from a protected artesian well in the middle of pine forests. The total mineralization is xxx mg per liter.
Taste: Soft, slight hint of sweetness and a very balanced structure. It tastes fresh and pleasant.
Recommendation: Zaku pairs well with light to medium-strong dishes such as poultry, salad, and pasta.

Prince Milos originates from Arandjelovac, Serbia. With a total mineralization of 754.3 mg per liter, it is considered a medium mineralized water. Naturally carbonated, it contains high levels of magnesium (86 mg per liter) and bicarbonate (842 mg per liter).
Taste: Due to its natural carbonation and mineral content, Prince Milos has a robust, lively mouthfeel with a noticeable, structured saltiness and a slight bitterness, which is due to the high magnesium content.
Recommendation: Prince Milos pairs well with grilled meat, sausages, and fried foods.

MonViso is a natural mineral water from the Italian Alps. It comes from an altitude of 2,042 meters. With only 49 mg of total mineralization per liter, it is considered a very low mineralized water. It contains only 0.33 mg of sodium per liter.
Taste: Very light, clear, and neutral with a very clean, almost "airy" mouthfeel. The mineral content is barely noticeable. The sparkling version has an enjoyable, light acidity.
Recommendation: Ideal with fine dishes such as light appetizers or sushi.

Antipodes is an artesian water from New Zealand that is sourced from one of the deepest aquifers in the country (327 meters deep). It is characterized by low mineralization of 130 mg per liter. At the time of bottling, it is between 50 and 300 years old. The high silica content of 73 mg per liter is what gives Antipodes its unique taste.
Taste: The water is extremely soft and has a silky mouthfeel. Meanwhile, the minerals are barely noticeable.
Recommendation: It is particularly suitable for very fine dishes such as fish, light vegetarian cuisine, and elegant desserts.
Conclusion:
Dubai's water world has far more to offer than what you find in supermarkets. When choosing water, it's about more than just hydration. It's about experience, health, and taste. From mild, low-mineralized waters to complex, highly mineralized varieties, Dubai offers a diverse selection to suit every taste.
Curious?
Then order a few different types of water and see which one you like most.
With that said: Drink water, #stayhydrated

My fascination with mineral waters began in 2016 during my training as a Water Sommelier. Since then, I have been exploring the characteristics and diversity of water. In addition to pairing water with food, wine, coffee and other beverages, I offer the creation of water menus for restaurants and hotels. Furthermore, it is also important to me to draw attention to the importance of drinking water.
